Changing Lives for 30 Years…

Founded in 1995, West Dallas Community School is committed to providing a private Christian education for the children of West Dallas – one of the most economically, socially and academically challenged neighborhoods in the country. We are dedicated to the development of the whole child with special attention to the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical well-being of each one of our students.

When we opened our doors 30 years ago, we welcomed twenty students. Today, we provide a comprehensive curriculum to more than 250 students from Pre-K through 8th grade. We are proud to report that our students go on to attend local private and public high schools. We boast a 99 percent high school graduation rate, and 83 percent of our graduates attend college. These numbers will only increase as WDCS students currently attending high school graduate and continue to nurture the educational foundation developed here.

30 Stories for 30 Years

The stories of our students and families are woven into the fabric of our school.  As we celebrate our thirty year anniversary, we recognize God's faithfulness in forming and growing our community.

By sharing thirty stories throughout the year, we hope to honor those who made our mission possible and those who have been impacted by WDCS.  We invite you to follow along as we share these stories via social media, email, and on our website. Stay tuned as we release more stories throughout the year.

NIKKI WASHINGTON | 22 Years of Service

Mrs. Washington has been a treasured part of our faculty for over 22 years. She has taught Kindergarten every year.

"I love getting to teach kindergarten at West Dallas Community School. The school's atmosphere is very nurturing and loving. We really are a family.

I have taught five girls from one family. A few years ago, I attended the high school graduation of the oldest, while holding the youngest sibling in my arms. She is now in fourth grade. My greatest accomplishment has been teaching generations of siblings and watching them from grow from children into beautiful young adults.

I am so proud of our students' accomplishments. At WDCS, we are giving them the foundation they need to succeed and encouraging them to go as far as they can go."

the timeline of founding WDCS

The founding of West Dallas Community School is a testimony to God’s faithfulness. Pastor Arrvel Wilson, who returned to his childhood community with a vision for hope, was joined by Robin Lewis, bringing academic expertise, and Norm and Carole Sonju, rallying support and leadership. Together, these faithful men and women built WDCS on a foundation of love, prayer, and partnership.

The photos and words below tell the beautiful story of how God wove their lives together to bring Christ-centered education and lasting hope to West Dallas.
