30 Stories for 30 Years

The stories of our students and families are woven into the fabric of our school.  As we celebrate our thirty year anniversary, we recognize God's faithfulness in forming and growing our community.

By sharing thirty stories throughout the year, we hope to honor those who made our mission possible and those who have been impacted by WDCS.  We invite you to follow along as we share these stories via social media, email, and on our website. Stay tuned as we release more stories throughout the year.

Nikki Washington, TEAcher

Mrs. Washington has been a treasured part of our faculty for over 22 years. She has taught Kindergarten every year.

"I love getting to teach kindergarten at West Dallas Community School. The school's atmosphere is very nurturing and loving. We really are a family.

I have taught five girls from one family. A few years ago, I attended the high school graduation of the oldest, while holding the youngest sibling in my arms. She is now in fourth grade. My greatest accomplishment has been teaching generations of siblings and watching them from grow from children into beautiful young adults.

I am so proud of our students' accomplishments. At WDCS, we are giving them the foundation they need to succeed and encouraging them to go as far as they can go."

COLE HOWARD, CLass of 2009

Cole attended WDCS from 2001-2009. After graduating high school from The Cambridge School of Dallas, he attended college at Abilene Christian University studying Accounting and Finance. Cole now works in Commercial Real Estate Investments at Knox Capital, and he currently serves as a member of the WDCS Board of Directors.

"I truly believe that WDCS instilled in me the confidence that I could do or be whatever I set my mind to. From an early age, I was surrounded by teachers and mentors who not only believed in my potential but reminded me that my abilities were gifts from God. WDCS gave me a strong foundation, academically, spiritually, and personally, that shaped how I approach challenges and opportunities to this day.

Now, years later, I have the privilege of serving on the WDCS Board. It's incredibly meaningful to be able to give back to the same community that poured so much into me. I see how the same Christ-centered mission that impacted me as a student continues to shape new generations, and I'm grateful to play even a small part in carrying that legacy forward."

Ann Marie, class of 2019

AnnMarie started at WDCS as a Pre-K student. During her time at our school, her teachers described her as curious, bright, and always joyful.

In 2019, she graduated from WDCS and started high school at Trinity Christian Academy on scholarship. At TCA, she was able to build on the foundation given to her by WDCS and pursue her passion for learning about new cultures.

This year she is a freshman at Baylor University, studying Health Science. For her first year, she is doing a study abroad program in Liverpool.

Khloe, Class of 2011

“I attended WDCS from 2002 to 2011, starting in Pre-K and staying all the way through 8th grade. I was there during the years when the school was still in the portables, which I actually loved — as a kid, it all felt so whimsical! I attended Trinity Christian Academy in Addison for high school, then went on to the University of Arkansas where I studied International Studies and Asian Studies, with a minor in Japanese. Currently, I am preparing for an exciting move to Ecuador to pursue work in the field of wellness and holistic healing.”

West Dallas Community School is more than a school. It is a living testimony of God’s provision. For families like ours, every lesson, every smile, every prayer whispered over our children is a reminder that we are not just sending our daughter to school… we are partnering with a ministry that is impacting generations.

Mariqua, Class of 2009

Mariqua attended WDCS for her 5th to 8th grade years between 2005-2009. After graduating high school from The Cambridge School of Dallas, she moved to Waco to pursue her BA & MA in Corporate Communications at Baylor University.

"Looking back, what impacted me most was how WDCS provided a strong academic foundation and an early introduction to structured learning. It was also the school that connected me to the high school where I would eventually grow into myself, build lasting relationships, and find more of my voice.

While much of who I am today has been shaped by my family and the values they instilled, as well as my later educational experiences, WDCS helped set the stage. It introduced me to a larger supportive community, discipline, plus early exposure to ancient language and even etiquette lessons (which I found myself drawn to and have continued to value ever since)."

Thank you for bringing your students to the Bush Museum. They clearly paid attention and learned. And they were so very respectful in every way! They were the best group we’ve had. Students like this don’t just happen. They come about because of teachers like you.
